The 3A molecular sieve is a kind of desiccant for gasses and other material. It is an adsorbent for air purification and for the separation of methane, ethane and propane. It is a potassium-exchanged form of the type A molecular sieve, and an alkali metal aluminosilicate. It can be regenerated for re-use by heating with simultaneous purge or by evacuation. The 4A molecular sieve adsorbs water, methanol, methyl mercaptan, H2S and ethane, but not propane or larger hydrocarbons, and has been specially formulated for drying natural gas and natural gas liquids. It has demonstrated the ability to provide long service life and predictable, economical dehydration service. 4A-DG adsorbent can provide very low moisture levels required by cryogenic NGL recovery plants. The 5A molecular sieve is a molecular sieve absorbent which makes possible the separation of normal paraffins from branched-chain and cyclic hydrocarbons through a selective absorption process. It is now used commercially in large-scale n-paraffin separation processes.
